- In 1976, Nadia Comaneci
- [coe-man-EECH] became
- the first gymnast ever to
- earn a perfect score in
- Olympic competition. The
- 4' 11" tall, 14-year-old from Romania scored
- two 10ΓÇÖs during the team competition and
- five more in the individual events. In all,
- Nadia won three gold medals, a silver, and
- a bronze at the 1976 Games.

- Nadia began training for the Olympics when
- she was just 6 years old. Her coach, Bela
- Karolyi, later coached U.S. champions Mary
- Lou Retton and Kim Zmeskal.

- The 1980 Olympics were held in Moscow,
- capital of what was then the Soviet
- Union. Nadia had grown much bigger.
