  1.                                  In 1976, Nadia Comaneci 
  2.                                  [coe-man-EECH] became 
  3.                                  the first gymnast ever to 
  4.                                  earn a perfect score in 
  5.                                  Olympic competition. The 
  6. 4' 11" tall, 14-year-old from Romania scored 
  7. two 10ΓÇÖs during the team competition and
  8. five more in the individual events. In all,
  9. Nadia won three gold medals, a silver, and
  10. a bronze at the 1976 Games.

  12. Nadia began training for the Olympics when 
  13. she was just 6 years old. Her coach, Bela 
  14. Karolyi, later coached U.S. champions Mary 
  15. Lou Retton and Kim Zmeskal.

  17. The 1980 Olympics were held in Moscow, 
  18. capital of what was then the Soviet 
  19. Union. Nadia had grown much bigger.
